Project overview

The Lowe’s Ideas experience helps customers move from discovering a look they love to envisioning it in their own home. It connects room inspiration with product discovery, estimated project costs, personalized room visualization, and access to professional design support—all within the Lowe’s app.

The strategic opportunity was to support customers earlier in their home-improvement journey, before they know exactly which products to buy. Search serves customers who know what they need; Ideas serves customers who know what they want to accomplish. Rather than beginning with individual products, the experience starts with a complete space and helps customers explore what it would take to make it their own.

My role as Lead Product Designer

I led the product design and experience direction, shaping a broad kitchen-inspiration concept into a connected journey spanning discovery, style exploration, visualization, and project planning. My focus was on making inspiration actionable without turning an exploratory experience into a product catalog too early.

I established an image-led hierarchy with room-based navigation, featured styles, and immersive detail pages. Large room imagery provides the initial context, while descriptions, estimated costs, and categorized product selections introduce practical information as customers explore further. This progression supports both open-ended browsing and more deliberate purchase consideration.

For “Apply to My Space,” I designed a flow that lets customers upload a room photo or reuse an existing image, then view their selected style applied to that space. Switching between the inspiration and “My Kitchen,” alongside a press-and-hold interaction to view the original, gives customers a direct way to compare the proposed transformation with their existing room.

I connected that visualization experience to the products and services needed to move forward. Product groupings organize elements such as countertops, cabinets, backsplashes, and lighting, while project-estimate ranges provide a different level of cost context from individual product prices. Consultation entry points offer a path to professional guidance and a personalized quote, rather than assuming every customer is ready to purchase immediately.

I also incorporated saving, sharing, related styles, and room-image management to support a journey that involves revisiting ideas and considering alternatives. Persistent actions keep those next steps accessible without pulling attention away from the room imagery.

Strategic value

The experience positions the app as more than a destination for finding and buying individual products. It creates a connected path from “I like this look” to “I can see it in my home—and understand my next step.”

My contribution combined product framing with detailed interaction design, bringing inspiration, visualization, merchandise, and design services together around a customer’s project. The goal was to build confidence while creating clearer opportunities for product exploration and consultation—not simply increase the amount of inspirational content in the app.
