Project overview

This project focused on helping Wells Fargo customers understand their account balances, find transactions, and access everyday banking actions through a responsive account-details experience. The design brings available and posted balances, pending activity, transaction history, and actions such as paying bills and transferring money into a single account-level view.

The challenge was to make information-dense banking content approachable across mobile and tablet screens without sacrificing detail. Search and transaction-type filters help customers narrow their activity, while expandable transaction records provide additional information without requiring them to leave the list.

My role as Lead Product Designer

I led the design of the account-details experience and its supporting search and filtering components, defining the information hierarchy, responsive layouts, and interaction states across screen sizes and orientations.

I organized the experience around a clear progression: understand the account’s current position, locate relevant activity, and inspect individual transactions. Balance summaries distinguish available funds from posted balances and pending activity, while separate sections for pending and posted transactions make those differences visible within the transaction history.

I adapted the presentation from a column-based tablet layout to stacked mobile transaction records, preserving key information while accommodating narrower screens. Expandable rows reveal supporting details on demand, balancing a scannable overview with access to more complete transaction information.

I also designed and documented the reusable search-and-filter component, including tap-target dimensions, spacing, selected states, search-entry states, and landscape variations. The specifications included Private Bank styling, allowing the component to support different brand treatments while retaining a consistent structure.

The central design priority was balancing financial detail with everyday usability—giving customers a clear overview when they needed a quick check, and the tools to investigate further when they needed a closer look.
