Project overview

The Lowe’s Appliance Installation & Services experience helps customers add professional installation, haul-away, and required parts to an appliance purchase directly from their cart. The experience supports both customers who want professional installation and those planning to handle installation themselves, bringing the relevant options into one coordinated selection flow.

The design challenge was to make the relationship between service packages and required components easy to understand before checkout. Customers can compare clearly priced options, see which parts are included with installation, or purchase parts separately. Their selections then carry back into the cart with an itemized view of services, included components, and updated pricing.

My role as Lead Product Designer

I led the design of the cart-to-service-selection experience, from early wireframes through high-fidelity interface design. My focus was on translating interconnected service options, product requirements, and delivery constraints into a straightforward mobile experience.

I designed a contextual entry point within the cart that flags required parts alongside the appliance, helping customers discover installation needs before proceeding to checkout. Within the selection screen, I separated professional service packages from parts available for self-installation, using consistent layouts and prominent pricing to support comparison.

I defined the interaction states that communicate how each selection affects the purchase. Selected services receive a clear visual treatment, while components bundled with installation display explicit “Included with Installation” messaging rather than standalone prices. The updated cart preserves that relationship, keeping services and parts grouped with the appliance they support.

I also mapped dependencies between installation and delivery method, including confirmation messaging before a delivery change would remove installation from the order.

A central design priority was helping customers purchase a complete solution—not just an appliance. The goal was to make clear what is included, what needs to be purchased separately, and how those choices affect the total before checkout.
